MIoD is proud to announce that we have signed up to the Statement for COP26 regarding Climate Change with the Climate Governance Initiative (CGI).

“We welcome the fact that growing numbers of directors around the world have understood the gravity of the climate crisis and have committed to taking a leadership role in improving climate governance on their boards. We represent an important new wave of climate champions who have significant influence, and we are ready to step up to accelerate the pace of change needed to deliver a net-zero economy in our lifetime.” – Karina Litvak, Chairman, Climate Governance Initiative

If you are a board director, you have an opportunity to play a part in the global response to the climate emergency.

Today, the Climate Governance Initiative has released a statement highlighting the critical role of board directors in the transition to a net-zero future. The CGI is building a global community of climate-conscious directors and has an overall network exceeding 100,000 individuals. Find the statement here: https://climate-governance.org/cop26-statement/

At the Myanmar Institute of Directors, we are proud to be a part of this network and support this important statement ahead of COP26. Find the press release here https://climate-governance.org/cop26-statement-press-release/.

If you are a non-executive director, join your local Chapter to develop the skills and knowledge needed to make climate a boardroom priority. You can see the full list of global Chapters on the CGI’s website: https://climate-governance.org/

The MIoD recently upgraded our logo to include a new tagline that reflects the strategic outcomes we aim to achieve as an organization.

  • Stronger Governance
  • Stronger Institutions
  • Stronger Myanmar

These three components of strategic outcomes signify that MIoD exists to strengthen Myanmar.

The MIoD’s second Annual General Meeting 2021 was held on 23rd September 2021. Given the COVID-19 guidelines this years’ AGM was held electronically by live-stream on Zoom in the interests of safety for our fellow members.

The meeting was led by U Thura Ko Ko, who was appointed as the AGM Chair, followed by Daw Thiri Thant Mon, CEO of MIoD, who presented the CEO’s Annual Report, and the Auditors reviewed the Audit Statement. There were 6 resolutions voted by the member at the AGM and by proxy forms, which appointed new directors, re-appointed the current auditors of the MIoD until the next AGM and updated the Constitution to introduce new term limits for board members and form a new Advisory Council.  All resolutions were passed…

Dear MIoD Community,

I wrote to you nine days ago reiterating my belief that what we do at the MIoD strengthens Myanmar and that we will endeavour to continue providing normal programming for our community.  My belief in our mission remains stronger than ever.  It is only with a strong, well-run private sector that we can create good jobs, equal opportunities and be competitive on the global stage.

Postponed programming: After much deliberation, we are revising our initial intention and will temporarily suspend all our programmes.  As such, in addition to the previous postponement of the residential Director Certification Programme announced for 23-25 February, we will now also be postponing the online Finance for Directors course planned for 17-18 February.  New dates will be announced once they are determined and registered participants will also be contacted individually.  We do apologise to all of you and thank you in advance for your understanding.

Office closure: The MIoD office will be closed for a week between 15-19 February and the office will respond to emails upon our return on 22 February.  For any urgent issues, please call (+95) 9 400 151 412 and (+95) 9 400 151 419. I can be reached directly at thirithantmon@myanmariod.com at any time should you have concerns and suggestions.

These are challenging times for our country.  My wishes for all of you to stay safe and for our country to have a brighter future.

Sincerely yours,

Thiri Thant Mon
