To celebrate International Women’s Day, the Myanmar Institute of Directors (MIOD) and AMCHAM Myanmar jointly hosted a Breakfast Talk focusing on the role of women in corporate governance.

In the beginning, the concept of corporate governance was introduced, and its positive influence on professionalism inside companies and organizations elaborated. The panel then stressed the importance of including women in leading positions in companies, not based on their gender, but based on productivity potential that is not utilized in an unbalanced workforce or board composition. Further, the importance of mentorship for upcoming leaders and future board members was discussed, for example, providing more opportunities to sit-in board meetings and observe how formal procedures are executed and decisions are made.

Ma Cherry Trivedi, CEO of MIoD presented a corporate briefing on Corporate Governance on February 17th at India in Myanmar (Embassy of India, Yangon). The meeting was attended by over 30 professionals.

Initial MIoD Trainers’ Meeting in February 2020 and delighted to be re-engaged with all the cadre trainers of the Myanmar Institute of Directors. MIoD would also like to acknowledge the hard work, efforts, and commitment of MIoD trainers during 2019 and until now, which has underscored the growth and success of the MIoD and Myanmar Private Sector Development. Myanmar Institute of Directors (MIoD) took part in the “????? ??????? & ?????????? ????????” training offered to around 290 University Students (3rd and 4th Years) of the Yangon Institute of Economics (YIE) Campus’ Theatre 2.

This five days training program (from 20th – 24th January 2020) for YIE Students was organized by Institute of Business and Investment Management – IBIM Myanmar and contribution by ICAEW, CISI, Yangon Stock Exchange – YSX, Security Exchange Commission (SECM), Myanmar Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (MPE/VCA), GLOBAL Legal Myanmar and MIoD.

These five-day sessions broadened the students’ knowledge of Capital Market, the operation of the Stock Exchange in Myanmar, Legal Process, the importance of Corporate Governance for Myanmar Companies and etc.

This year the MIoD will hold it’s inaugural Anual General Meeting to elect a board of directors who will govern our Association which is now approaching 200 members. Attached you will find a Director Nomination Form with instructions for those wishing to nominate themselves to participate on the board. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the strategy and policies of the MIoD, and to ensure that the Association achieves its mission and objectives. MIoD’s vision is to be the pioneering and leading organisation in supporting the professional development of directors with a focus on improving the effectiveness of their boards and board committees.
