Message from the MIoD CEO

Dear MIoD Community, 

I hope this finds you safe and well. The MIoD exists to strengthen corporate governance in Myanmar and to support boards and board directors. We believe that the strength of our country is greatly enhanced by a strong private sector, strong governance, and strong institutions. 

We will endeavour our upmost to provide normal programming and support for our members and the wider community and country in the coming days and months. Most of the offering will stay online at present.

Joint Session on Corporate Governance: MIoD and IMCC 

5th February 2021 (3:00 pm – 4:30 pm) 

This joint session hosted by the India Myanmar Chamber of Commerce and the Myanmar Institute of Directors and will feature speakers from Allen & Gledhill Myanmar and PwC Myanmar. The webinar will provide an overview of corporate governance in Myanmar, developments in the Myanmar legal and regulatory environment that impact company directors and MIoD programmes and activities to support directors. (This is a members-only event)

Finance for Directors  

17th – 18th February 2021 (9:00 am – 5:00 pm) 

Finance for Directors course is a two-day online course which is aimed towards board directors who do not have a financial background and will cover the following topics: 

  • The director’s role and responsibilities in financial governance and reporting 
  • The life cycle of business financing, including diverse sources of company finances and their advantages and disadvantages. 
  • How to interpret financial statements, including how to analyse business/financial information and use of ratios. 
  • Governance of external financial reporting, including standards and practices. 
  • Director’s checklist: key questions that each director should ask and how to spot red flags.

We will be postponing the residential Director Certification Programme announced for 23-25 Feb to a later date with our apologies for any inconvenience caused. 

The role of the board and board directors is more important than ever, and we encourage you to stay engaged with the community and share knowledge, learning and a network of support.
