Setting strategy for an organisation is one of the critical roles of a board of directors.  This course provides the essential knowledge and tools that board directors can employ to evaluate, create, and deliver strategy for your organisation.  We will learn frameworks and tools in analysing industries, competitive dynamics, your organisation’s strengths, and weaknesses, evaluating strategic options and creating a dynamic strategy process.  The course will also examine the collaboration between board and management to deliver effective strategy and create an effective monitoring and evaluation plan.

This course provides the fundamentals of risk oversight at board level and how effective risk management can be leveraged to improve governance, performance, resilience, and competitive advantage.  We will explore different types of risk, assessing severity and probabilities, interconnectedness of risk factors and how business can prepare and navigate uncertainty through understanding and setting risk appetite, exploring mitigating factors and utilising the role of risk committees.

Succession and wealth transfer issues, mismanagement, and conflict: they can all become commonplace as family-owned companies grow through multiple generations. How can these risks be mitigated?

Family governance — policies and procedures that guide business practices and help families govern themselves — is the best way to ensure that the family-owned business, family resources, and family harmony are sustained over time.

| About the Program

The MIoD Internal Audit Master Program (IAMP) is a two-day course providing a deep dive into the fundamentals of internal audit methodologies and best practices. The program aims to help internal auditors develop a risk-based plan for implementing effective internal audit practices within their companies. An independent and well-functioning internal audit department plays a critical role in mitigating risk and safeguarding against mismanagement. It also ensures that the Audit Committee receives timely, accurate and comprehensive feedback about the control environment of the company.

The program covers:

  • Audit Risk Assessment and Annual Planning
  • Risk Governance and Audit
  • Audit Reporting
  • Audit Follow-Up
  • Driving Quality Audit Performance and External Quality Assessment

|| An Interactive Workshop for Women in Corporate Leadership! ||

Numerous studies from around the world demonstrate the importance of gender diversity. Companies with more women on their boards and in senior management have been shown to financially outperform companies with no women in top positions. The evidence goes beyond improved financial and market performance. Heterogenous teams are also better at generating new ideas and avoiding groupthink. There is a correlation between the presence of women in critical board committees (such as risk and audit) and a more responsible approach to governance issues. Gender-diverse boards allocate more effort to monitoring, including verifying the integrity of audit information and ensuring conflict of interest guidelines are adhered to. Lastly, reducing the gender gap in workforces will expand the available labour supply by tapping into the underutilised female talent and potentially increase a country’s GDP.

Yet, progress has been slow toward more women joining company boards, despite a continuing rise in the number of educated and experienced female business leaders. Asia ranks 6th out of 7 regions for the percentage of board seats held by women (7.8%) and the percentage of board chairs that are women (2.6%).

| Workshop content:

In this one-day workshop, an experienced facilitator will guide participants to discuss the current gender gap within their own organisations, highlight unconscious biases and stereotypes, and equip them with practical strategies, tools, and techniques to catalyse change within their own organisations.

The workshop will be delivered in English language.
