Philip Forrest, Governing Council, Singapore Institute of Directors (SID) will present on the topic “What it really means to be a Director”, an international perspective on being a company director.

Topics include:

  • The role of the board
  • How directors are different from management, and the different types of directors
  • What the law says about director responsibility
  • The risks and rewards of taking on a directorship
  • And finally… how to plan for a directing career, and how to get that first board seat.

SPEAKER

Philip Forrest is an Australian who has lived in the ASEAN region since 1982, and in Singapore since 1991. He is in his eighth year on the Governing Council of the Singapore Institute of Directors, is a member of the exco, and is chair of the International Relations committee. Philip is a non-executive director of several (mostly Australia-linked) companies in the region, and sits on the advisory boards of James Cook University Singapore Campus and Australian Alumni Singapore. He has also served on the Council of the Singapore Business Federation, the Boards of the Australian Chamber of Commerce (former president) and the British Chamber of Commerce, and the Council of the Association of Banks in Singapore. He was previously Asia Head for ANZ Bank with responsibility for 11 countries from Japan to Indonesia, and spent 15 years with Citibank in Australia, USA, the Philippines, Indonesia and Thailand.
