It gives me great pleasure to introduce Daw May Thet Win (Ms. Emilie) as the Chief Executive Officer of the Myanmar Institute of Directors (MIoD), effective 20 July 2026. Throughout the appointment process, the Board and I were impressed by the breadth of her experience across both the private and public sectors, her commitment to responsible leadership, and the incredible positive energy she brings. We are delighted that she has agreed to lead MIoD into its next stage of development.

May brings more than 20 years of experience across the private sector, diplomatic missions, government and United Nations agencies in Myanmar. She will concurrently serve as Consultant and Resident Representative for Myanmar with the Austrian Commercial Counsellor in Bangkok, advising Austrian companies on market entry and business expansion in Myanmar.

Previously, May served as Senior Commercial Specialist with the U.S. Commercial Service and as an Economic Specialist with the U.S. Department of State at the U.S. Embassy in Yangon. She also led market development in Myanmar for Honeywell Pte. Ltd., where she was responsible for regional expansion strategies. Her international development experience includes procurement and economic initiatives with the United Nations World Food Programme and project coordination for the Entrepreneurship and MSME Support Unit at the International Labour Organization.

May has also held roles within Myanmar’s Ministry of Commerce, giving her valuable experience in bilateral and international trade promotion. She co-founded Prime Pillar Education Services and previously served as a Senior Manager at Supreme Group of Companies. She began her career in journalism as a reporter for The Myanmar Times.

May holds a Master of Development Studies from the Yangon University of Economics, an MBA from the International University of Japan, and a BA (Honours) in English from the University of Yangon. A native speaker of Burmese who is fluent in English, she also has foundational knowledge of French, Japanese and German.

Alongside her professional interests, May enjoys nature and outdoor activities and values the opportunity to build meaningful connections with people from different backgrounds. Her commitment to continual learning currently includes studies in counselling psychology and applied psychology.

May’s breadth of experience across business, government and international organisations, together with her strong relationship-building and leadership capabilities will serve MIoD well. Her positive energy and sense of purpose give me every confidence that she will do an excellent job and take MIoD to the next level. As I step down as Executive Director, I am pleased to remain a member of the MIoD Board of Directors and will continue to support May, the team and the organisation. Please join me in welcoming May. I am very optimistic about MIoD’s future and firmly believe that it will continue to go from strength to strength under her leadership.
